It faithfully reproduces three of the 22 bronze statues from the National War Memorial in Ottawa in high relief. The bilingual inscription "THEY GAVE THEIR YOUTH / ILS ONT DONNÉ LEUR JEUNESSE" arches along the top rim.
The obverse typically features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
