This is the 2004 Canadian First French Settlement Commemorative Silver Dollar. Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this non-circulating $1 coin commemorates the 400th anniversary (1604–2004) of the arrival of French explorers Samuel de Champlain and Pierre du Gua de Mons at Île Sainte-Croix.
The reverse design features a 17th-century sailing ship alongside a historical map of the Île Sainte-Croix settlement, masterfully created by Robert-Ralph Carmichael and engraved by Stan Witten. The initials RRC are visible near the horizon line.
The reverse side pairs with Susanna Blunt’s modern right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
