Peter Paul Rubens was a leading Flemish Baroque painter, diplomat, and entrepreneur (1577–1640) known for his dynamic, sensual, and dramatic compositions filled with movement and rich color, influenced by his study of Italian Renaissance and Baroque masters and his Northern heritage. He created altarpieces, historical and mythological scenes, landscapes, and portraits with a large workshop to meet demand, eventually becoming a major international celebrity and a highly influential figure in the Baroque era.
