Official Commemorative Issue
This image shows a commemorative issue honoring the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jørgen Brønlund, dated October 20, 1977.
Jørgen Brønlund (1877–1907) was a Greenlandic polar explorer, catechist, and teacher who participated in the ill-fated Denmark Expedition to Greenland's northeast coast.
This commemorative issue is a sterling silver proof medallion, part of a series released by Postmasters from 1975 to 1978.
These medallions were produced at the Franklin Mint in the USA and often came with a stamped envelope from the celebrated country.
The issue features bilingual text in English and French, reflecting its international nature.
The 100th anniversary of Brønlund's birth was also commemorated by a Greenlandic postal stamp and a medallion by sculptor Eugene L. Daub.
