This coin is a 2012 Canada $10 Fine Silver Coin commemorating the bicentennial of the HMS Shannon. It was the first issue in a Royal Canadian Mint series celebrating the heroes and events of the War of 1812.
Reverse: Designed by Canadian artist Bonnie Ross, it depicts the HMS Shannon leaving Halifax Harbour in the early 19th century.
Unique Feature: A selectively gold-plated cameo in the upper right corner features the original figurehead from the HMS Shannon's bow.
Obverse: Features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
The HMS Shannon is famously known for its 15-minute victory over the USS Chesapeake on June 1, 1813, which was a significant morale booster for the Royal Navy during the War of 1812.
