This is a 1976 Canadian Olympic $100 gold coin, commemorating the XXI Summer Summer Games held in Montreal.
The reverse side of the coin, shown in the image, features a design by Dora de Pédery-Hunt depicting an ancient Grecian athlete being crowned with a laurel wreath by the goddess Pallas Athena. Inscriptions include "100 DOLLARS", the dates "776 B.C. - 1976 A.D.", and the Greek inscription "ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΔΕΣ 21" (Olympiads 21).
The sale of these commemorative coins by the Royal Canadian Mint was intended to help finance the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.
