This is a 1984 Toronto Sesquicentennial Silver Dollar, a commemorative coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Toronto's incorporation as a city (1834–1984).
The coin's design, created by Toronto artist David Craig, intentionally contrasts Toronto's past and present:
An Indigenous person in a birchbark canoe represents the area's early history and its reliance on the local waterways.
The modern Toronto skyline, featuring the CN Tower and various skyscrapers, symbolizes the city’s growth into a major metropolis.
The other side of the coin features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
