This is a 1971 Canadian dollar, a commemorative coin issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of British Columbia joining the Canadian Confederation in 1871.
Designed by Thomas Shingles, the reverse features British Columbia's coat of arms, supported by a wapiti (elk) and a bighorn sheep. Below the shield is the provincial motto: "Splendor Sine Occasu" (Splendour without diminishment).
Features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Arnold Machin.
