The reverse side features a howling wolf design by artist Alex Colville, which was part of a special series of animal-themed coins for the centennial year.

The obverse side of this Canadian coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The effigy shown is the second portrait of the Queen used on Canadian coinage, designed by Arnold Machin, which was used from 1965 to 1989.
