This is a 1999 Canadian $2 Nunavut Commemorative Proof Sterling Silver Coin.
The reverse design features an image of an Inuit drum dancer created by Nunavut First Nations artist Germaine Arnaktauyok. The drum in the design includes a map outlining the new territory of Nunavut, and a kudliq (a traditional stone lamp that provides warmth and a sense of security) is visible within the map. The edge of the coin has interrupted serrations.
The coin was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint to commemorate the formation of Nunavut as Canada's third territory on April 1, 1999.
The reverse design, by artist Germaine Arnaktauyok, depicts an Inuit drum dancer, which represents one of the oldest and most traditional forms of Inuit music and culture.
The drum signifies that the people's voices will be heard far and wide.
