The Queen's Beasts Collection, which celebrates the ten heraldic creatures that guarded the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The Lion of England was the inaugural release of this multi-coin series.

Designed by acclaimed coin designer Jody Clark (indicated by his initials "JC" near the lower rim of the coin). It showcases a crowned stylized lion rearing up behind a shield displaying the Royal Arms.
