This image displays the reverse side of a 1974 Fiji $25 silver proof coin commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Cession of Fiji to Great Britain.
 
Subject: The coin features a bust of Ratu Seru Epenisa Cakobau, a Fijian warlord and paramount chief who ceded Fiji to the British Empire in 1874.

Commemoration: The inscription "100th ANNIVERSARY OF CESSION TO GREAT BRITAIN 1874-1974" clearly marks the historical event being celebrated.

Paper included states:

The enclosed 1974 Fiji Commemorative Coin marks the 100th Anniversary of the cession of Fiji to Great Britain.

The obverse depicts the Arnold Machin portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England. The reverse depicts the portrait of King Ratu Seru Cakobau, the native chief who was instrumental in the ceding of Fiji to Great Britain. The reverse also bears the inscription, "100th Anniversary of Cession to Great Britain 1874-1974".

The coin is legal tender in Fiji and is equivalent to $30 U.S. based on an exchange rate of $1F = $1.20 U.S. The coin will circulate in the islands.

This superb proof coin weighs 750 grains and has a diameter of 45 mm. Its composition is .925 fine sterling silver which means this coin contains almost 1.5 ounces of silver, an unusually high amount in coinage today.

The numismatic value of the Fiji $25 coin has been enhanced since all dies used to produce this historic coin have been totally destroyed.
