The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal (CVSM), established on October 22, 1943, was awarded to members of the Canadian Armed Forces who voluntarily served on active service during World War II. It recognized 18 months of total service between September 3, 1939, and March 1, 1947, or 6 months of overseas service. Over 650,000 medals were issued.

The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal (CVSM) was established on 22 October 1943 and is awarded to individuals of any rank in the Canadian military forces who voluntarily served on active duty and completed eighteen months of total voluntary service from 3 September 1939 to 1 March 1947. The medal is a circular silver item, 1.42 inches in diameter, featuring seven marching figures representing the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Nursing service, with the inscription "1939 CANADA 1945 VOLUNTARY SERVICE VOLONTAIRE" around the rim. The reverse side displays the coat of arms of Canada. The ribbon is 1.25 inches wide, with a royal blue center flanked by two equal stripes of scarlet and dark green. The medal was awarded after the war, and a silver bar was introduced for 60 days service outside Canada. The Hong Kong Bar and Bomber Command Bar were awarded for specific service during the Second World War.
