Born in 1900 near Dana, Indiana, he studied journalism at Indiana University. Leaving school in 1923 before graduating, Pyle became a cub reporter on a small-town news-paper. He spent the next 12 years working on newspapers in Indiana, Washington, D.C. and New York. In 1935 he be-came a roving reporter for the Scripps-Howard newspaper chain. With his wife, he traveled 200,000 miles throughout most of the Western Hemisphere, writing popular human interest columns about his experiences. Pyle was 42 years old when he began his wartime service in Europe. In his baggy correspondent's uniform, Pyle became a familiar and respected friend to the American troops. After nearly three years in Europe, he joined U.S. forces in the Pacific war theater. During the battle for Okinawa, he was killed by Japanese machine-gun fire on April 18, 1945. Though he hated war, he wrote about it with humor and sensitivity. In his syndicated coverage of the campaigns on nearly every front in Europe and Africa, he helped to make the war real for mil-lions of Americans at home.

The round is titled "FREEDOMS FOUNDATION AT VALLEY FORGE".

It features an image of George Washington kneeling in prayer.

The "Patriots Hall of Fame Volume II Silver Franklin Age of Change" refers to collectible sterling silver medals issued by the Franklin Mint.

Content: .985 oz troy of fine silver

Mint: Franklin Mint Hall of Fame Series II

Weight: 33.15 g or 30.66 g fine silver

Diameter: 38.78 mm

Purity: 92.5%

No taxes on this purchase.
